"Implementation of Eco Airport in Indonesia" Indonesia and Sweden have had an ongoing cooperation programme in the aviation field since the late 1990s, in which the Swedish Civil Aviation Administration has been deeply involved together with the Indonesian Ministry of Transportation. Over the years climate change and environmental issue have become an ever important subject to which our two countries have given special priority. Environmentally conscious Sweden is a pioneer in greener flying, with the Scandinavian airline SAS carrying out its first fuel-saving landings in 2006 and Arlanda Airport pushing other airlines to follow the trend. President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, at the Pittsburg G-20 Summit last year, made an impressive, early commitment to cut carbon emissions in Indonesia by 26 percents by 2020 'through business as usual'. One way of cutting emissions substantially is to approach and develop how to cut carbon emissions at airports, making them into 'Eco Airport'. In the light of this objective, the Embassy of Sweden and the Ministry of Transportation, Directorate General of Civil Aviation, are organising a half-day seminar on "Implementation of Eco Airport in Indonesia" on Wednesday, 27 January in Jakarta. The seminar will cover the environmental and economical benefits as well as some technical parts through presentations by a great variety of experts. Dr Bambang Susantono, Vice Deputy Minister of Transportation of the Republic of Indonesia, will deliver the keynote speech at this seminar, which will be opened by the Director General of Civil Aviation Mr Herry Bakti and Ambassador of Sweden to Indonesia Mrs Ewa Polano.

The holidays has passed peacefully and we are now going towards Chinese New year. There are no indications on serious disturbances, even though the protests against the government and the century scandal has taken larger proportions that first anticipated. We hope to get a swift end to it when the parliament investigation gives it recommendations. Regardless what it says, there will be demonstrations against it. It is just the way Indonesian democracy works. The demonstrations will not have any effect what so ever on the governments decision, but for the medial theater it is something that just will happen.
