1. SBA News
The end of the year is closing up and we will soon have to summarize the 2005. There are a few events coming up from the Swedish side.

Nordic Event - Ostindiefararen - The famous boat coming to Jakarta in June 2006 will open up opportunities as well as moving Swedish history closer to Indonesia. The project leader for this, Dan-Erik Hägglund, will be guest speaker on this quarters Nordic Event, held at December 8 at 19.00. Venue is to be determined. Invitations are coming during next week, but book it up in your agenda.

Wewill also have a Swedish Business Lunecheon at Hotel Mulia Senayan on Friday December 9 at 13.00 on the subject hosted by the Embassy. Please contact Amreta for more information at Telp: 021-25535921 or E-mail at amreta.sidik@foreign.ministry.se

2. European News
The Investment to Bryssel on November 29 had a preparation session on November 10 but did not come with any surprises. We are still feeling that things are muddling through and not much is happening. The visit to Bryssel will be directed towards investment, but I have a feeling it will only be a political courtesy call.

The EuroCham Business Luncheon on November 29 (12.00-14.00) at Le Meridien Hotel will feature our own Swedish member of the European Commission, Andreas Julin, as a guest speaker on the subject "The challange of the WTO negotiations in Hongkong" . Please contact EuroCham for more information at info@eurocham.or.id or Telp: (021) 521 1650.

We also have the working group on Intellectual Property starting up on Thursday November 24 (16.00-18.00) at the EuroCham office, which will look closer on the problems with copyright and trademarks in Indonesia. Recommended for any company with counterfeit and piracy issues.

SBA Newsletter, August 2005

1. SBA News
First of all, welcome back from the holidays. I really hope that everyone had at least some Swedish sun during the holidays. There was a period of real heat, but I managed to get mostly rain in the first weeks of August.

We will get started with the seasons activities in September, with business luncheon and crash course. The september newsletter will be rather close to this one, so we will put all times in that letter.

We will have a few new SBA delegations during the autumn. The plans are:

Bangkok, Thailand. The time is not set yet, but the purpose with the delegation is to look over the retirement regulation in Indonesia together with Kadin and use Thailand as an example on how good and profitable it is for a country. Currently it's hard and complicated to retire in Indonesia and we want to change that. If you are interested to participate, please contact me at michael_olsson@bmolsson.co.id

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. We are invited to participate in the international OECD conference, Investment for Development: Making it happen. It will be 25-28 October and is hosted by the government of Brazil. You need to flag your interest before August 31 and you can get more information at www.oecd.org/daf/investment. Let me know your interest via michael_olsson@bmolsson.co.id and we can register as a delegation.

1. SBA News
May turned out to be a busy month as well. A lot of events on town and with good participation.

Our crash course on Expat immigration regulation and taxation ended up great in our cooperation with EuroCham. The largest surprise for everyone was of course the travel permit all resident foreigners needs when travelling. Not widely know among expats and fortunately also among Indonesian authorities. The next crash course will be in August, since we take a summer holiday for the crash courses.

Our delegation to Surabaya came back after a very successful visit. More on the visit in the Other section below.

The Swedish National day was for the first time in history a red day in Sweden. During the celebrations a lot of discussions on why we celebrate it occurred. I learned that it is the 1809 government forms approval and not the inauguration of Gustav Wasa 1523. Well, it feels good to have a national day regardless why........

There are no events planned for June or July by SBA, since after the schools ended already, a lot of the members will be taking holidays.

Even though, we have a Swedish Delegation here this week with company's looking for opportunities in the rebuilding of tsunami struck areas. If you want to know more, you can contact the Embassy.

1. SBA News
It has been a rather busy time since the last letter, hence the late arrival of this one.

Our crash course in commercial agreements was a success and we got three new individual members at the same time. The next crash course will be at EuroChams office and this time we will be talking about rules and regulation around being an expat.

Our delegation to Surabaya for the visit of Swedish Match Cigar factory will be gearing up with a small gaterhing at Club Macanudo at Shangrila Hotel on May 18 at 19.00. There will be cigar and som drinks on the house. For you who already booked this up, please meet up for some preparations. If any questions, please contact me via my E-mail.

We also have a new country representative at the Nordic Club, her name is Barbro Karlsson and have been here for eight months. You can contact her on email, karlsson@telkom.net or tel: 7179 1532 or mobile: 0816 190 5236. If you are not already a member of Nordic Club, consider it since they have a lot of practical information and support to offer in being an expat in Indonesia, and specially Jakarta.

SBA-EuroCham Crash Course - Expat regulations on immigration and tax, will be at EuroCham, World Trade Center, 10th floor, Jl. Jenderal Sudirman Kav. 29-31, Jakarta on Thursday June 2 between 9.00 - 12.00. Please register via E-mail to me: michael_olsson@bmolsson.co.id or Jutta at EuroCham at jutta_depetrini@eurocham.or.id. You can also call or fax to EuroCham, Telp: (021) 5211650 Fax: (021) 5211651. It's free for members in SBA or EuroCham, and it cost IDR 100,000 for non-members (you can becoma an individual member in SBA for IDR 100,000 on the spot). Remember that we have limited places and it's first registered first served.
