The mind-set of the Indonesian businessman that once he is rich enough to ride
in a Mercedes he has done all he needs to do must change in the face of globalised
trade and competition, Yogyakarta Governor Sri Sultan Hamengkubuwono X told
the Europe-Indonesia Association (EIA) business lunch in Jakarta on 10th June.
"If our CEOs can use a Mercedes, they are already satisfied. They cannot
build industries with the mind-set that they feel they can just depend on external
factors."
The Sultan told the luncheon hosted by BritCham that while foreign investment
was important, the local business community had to accept that the best way
to proceed was to develop industries that made far greater use of domestic components.
In a 30-minute address through a translator, the Sultan began by stating that
Indonesia faced many problems at this time. All had to be faced if the nation
was not to disintegrate.

lunch will be on May 22 and have the Sultan of Yogyakarta as quest speaker.
If you are interested to attend, please let me know and I will forward
